Bio

Andrea Alfarano joined the Center for Digital Visual Studies at the University of Zurich in July 2024. He holds a Master’s degree in Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics from Sapienza University, Rome, where he graduated with highest honors. Andrea has a robust background in machine learning and computer vision, having led research projects that introduced state-of-the-art methods in Spatio-Temporal Predictive Learning and Violent Behavior Detection from urban videos. His work has been recognized and published in prestigious conferences such as CVPR and IEEE ICAISC.

At Sapienza University, Andrea was pivotal in developing innovative AI solutions, including a novel pipeline for on-the-edge object detection and localization, and a comprehensive survey on Optical Flow. He also contributed significantly to competitive autonomous robotics, achieving multiple world championships with the ITIS Galileo Robocup Team.

Andrea’s research interests span across AI, deep learning, and their applications in visual studies and urban environments. His work aims to integrate computational methods with humanities frameworks, emphasizing the interplay between technology and societal context. In addition to his technical expertise, Andrea has been an active volunteer, teaching underprivileged children and participating in community service initiatives.

Andrea is excited to contribute to the Center for Digital Visual Studies, aiming to foster interdisciplinary research and collaboration in the field of digital humanities.
