Lecture
On December 9th, Darío Negueruela presents at “On Simulation. A Cultural Technique for Uncertain Urban Futures” symposium at the Center for Architecture Zurich (ZAZ).
In his talk, “Simulating Urban Denkstile: Vision-Language Models as Theoretical Lenses for Uncertain Futures” Negueruela discusses how computational methods and Deep Learning can enrich architectural and urban intuition by simulating particular “styles of thought” based on milestones of urban theory. With the aid of enhanced vision-LLMs we deploy a situated and interpretative lens to help us make sense of the complexity of our contemporary urban environments in a responsive, accountable, and open-ended manner. Because a city is not just one thing, because data are polysemic, we need open tools to operationalize a variety of analytical frameworks and help us imagine and act towards more fair, sustainable and inclusive urban futures.
The talk will take place in shared session with Orit Halpern. Make sure to check the program for details on the other contributions by an excellent panel of speakers.
Symposium
Organized by Prof. Sascha Roesler and Dr. Noa Levin, this symposium explores how urban and cultural production intersect with tools for forecasting and simulating futures in the face of climate uncertainty.
